Teaser Tuesday (6)

Happy first of June, everyone! For me, this is really really great cos it means I only have 9 more days until summer! Who else is excited for that? (;

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Wanna participate? Here's how it works:
  • Grab the book you're currently reading!
  • Turn to a random page
  • Pick out a few random sentences [non-spoilery, please!]
  • Be sure to add the title and the author of the book so that others can add your book to their TBR lists if they like your teaser!
Remember, even if you're not a blogger, you can still participate by leaving your teaser in the comments!
Anyway, right now I'm reading a book called The Line and so far it's really intriguing and I'm loving this future world! Well, not so much that I'd want to actually LIVE there, but you guys get what I mean. Here's my teaser for the week:

"Rachel and her mother had come to The Property after Rachel's father was lost in the last war between the Unified States and Samarik. Rachel had researched it; she wanted to know what her father had died for. Vivian would never say much about it, but according to the net archives, Samarik claimed the US was engaging in 'cruel and inhuman' practices. Things like apprehending citizens and forcing them to work in government Labor Pools if they couldn't pay random taxes. Samarik believed that citizens deserved public trials and reasonable sentences. The US wanted Samarik to stay out of their affairs, and they sent troops to make sure the message was clear. The US won, of course, but a lot of fathers died winning. When Rachel's father was reported as a casualty, Vivian was left to figure out how to support the two of them."

I know that's a little longer than the teasers I usually share, but I just found that little bit so interesting! Doesn't it sound really familiar? The whole US-Middle East situation, perhaps?

What are your teasers this week?
